Abi suddenly started squinting sometime around mid-June, 2009. She also became unsteady on her feet. Soon after, Sarah took her to the local doctor, who referred her squint to the local eye hospital. Abi was given an appointment six weeks from then, on the 9th August. However, my daughter’s ever more pronounced squint worried me, so I tried to get her seen sooner, by phoning the eye hospital’s Outpatient Department. “I’m sorry, but we can't give your daughter an earlier appointment without a proper referral from a medical professional,” I was told. So Abi would have to wait.
