Pilocytic Atrocytoma
A consultant paid us a visit the day after surgery: “Your daughter’s tumour is a benign Grade 1 Pilocytic Astrocytoma on the Cerebellum, an area at the back of the brain. The surgeon removed most of it, but he left a small residual rim. However, that is usual after such a lengthy procedure and over the coming months, we will be keeping a close eye on it.” “What’s the outlook for Abi?” I asked. “Will she grow up to be a fit and healthy young lady?” I ventured. The doctor looked at me reassuringly: “Mr. Langston,” she began, speaking kindly. “The prognosis for children suffering from such tumours is excellent. Indeed, there is every chance you will take your daughter’s hand as she steps out of the car and heads into the church for her wedding day.”
